Dzyanis Syrets was guilty of inciting hatred against the police and insulting officials and the President for his comments in the local chat room “Maladzechna for Life Chat” and sentenced to four years in a penal colony in a general regime, reports HRC Vyasna.

Judge of Minsk regional court Vyachaslau Tuleyka estimated the moral suffering of the insulted at 1,000 BYN each. The victims are policemen of Maladzechna, Hrodna riot policewoman, Lukashenka, Yarmoshyna, and Karpyankou.

Among the comments for which Dzyanis was convicted was this:

“I wished to Santa Claus 26 years ago that Lukashenka would die. But that bastard remains unaffected. Since then, I don’t believe in Santa Claus”.

To this, Syrets stated that he had expressed a complaint against Santa Claus, who did not grant wishes. However, according to the court, Dzyanis insulted, humiliated, and caused moral suffering to Lukashenka in this way.

Dzyanis Syrets was convicted under three criminal articles – for inciting hatred, insulting a representative of power, and insulting the president. Dzyanis confessed that he had written comments, but they were not addressed to the victims.

He said that he didn’t write the confession of his own free will: “I wrote the confession, not voluntarily, I wrote from dictation. I was told that I’d get off with fine or correctional labor if I write it. I didn’t know at all what was in it [what articles].”

This option was suggested to Dzyanis by the employees of the Main Directorate of the State Security Service. They also dictated to him all the names of the injured policemen, whom he was not familiar with.

Mr. Syrets was sentenced to four years in a minimum-security penal colony and ordered to pay 1,000 rubles in favor of each victim who filed a claim for moral suffering.

Dzyanis Syrets has two daughters, aged 15 and 4. According to Dzyanis’s wife, the younger daughter thinks her daddy is on a business trip.
