Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, former Swedish Prime Minister Carl Bildt, former US Presidential National Security Advisor John Bolton, former Polish President Aleksander Kwasniewski, former Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma, analyst Farid Zakaria, historian Neil Ferguson, and others participated in the conference.

Svyatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s office was represented by Franak Vyachorka, advisor to the Belarusian leader.

“During the conference, we held several consultations with political groups, the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Presidential Administration. In particular, we talked about the non-extradition of Belarusians and personal data of our compatriots to Lukashenka’s KGB, the termination of political and economic cooperation with the regime and sanctions, the Eastern Partnership and cooperation in international organizations,” Vyachorka said about the results of the conference. “At the conference, I met with members of the party “Servant of the People,” Ukrainian politicians Pavlo Klimkin, Volodymyr Groysman, Arsen Avakov. In recent months, we have been actively building contacts at the political and diplomatic level and expect Ukraine to act more decisively.”

Deputy Foreign Minister Vasily Bodnar, former Foreign Minister of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius, economist Anders Åslund, Belarusian journalist and expert Hanna Lyubakova, Ambassador John Herbst of the Atlantic Council also took part in the discussion on Belarus.

The main conclusions about Belarus, summarized by Franak Vyachorka:

  • democratic changes in Belarus are beneficial to all neighbors — and first of all, Ukraine;
  • it is impossible to solve the crisis without Lukashenka’s departure;
  • one of the main dangers for Belarus is loss of independence because of the regime;
  • sanctions against the regime are necessary, and this pressure must be coordinated.

The “Yalta European Strategy” is an international annual conference of Ukrainian and foreign politicians and entrepreneurs. The goal is to promote Ukraine’s development and support its European integration aspirations.
