Belarusian biathlonist becomes world champion


Darya Domrachava won the gold in the women’s mass start in the 2013 Biathlon World Championships in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic.

The sportswoman accomplished a distance of 12.5 km for 35 minutes, 54.4 seconds, 8.7 seconds ahead of Norway’s Tora Berger. Beaten by Domrachava on 27.6 seconds Poland’s Monika Hojnisz ran third.

In shooting Darya Domrachava lost twice and received a penalty lap. Another Belarusian, Nadzeya Skardzina, finished 26th: it took her 3 minutes 11 seconds and three penalty laps.

Domrachava’s gold became Belarus’ only medal at the championships. Norway confirmed current position of its biathlon supremacy: Norwegians all together gained 8 gold medals out of 11 available, which no one else managed to achieve before. France got one gold and four silver medals; Ukraine brings up the top three.
