In the afternoon of May 11, the Security Service of Ukraine searched the Kyiv home of Ukrainian MP Viktor Medvedchuk, leader of the movement “Ukrainian Choice – People’s Right” and head of the political council of the party “opposition platform – for life,” reported Hromadske. In March, searches were already conducted in several offices of the movement.

Prosecutor General of Ukraine Iryna Venediktova signed the ‘suspicion of treason’ document for two MPs. In a message on Facebook, she called them “M.” and “K.,” The Ukrainian media deciphered: they were Medvedchuk and Opposition Platform MP Taras Kazak (another MP Alexei Goncharenko said in April that they were under investigation for high treason). The Prosecutor General said that many investigative actions and pre-trial proceedings preceded these activities, but they tried to keep it a secret.

Now “M.” and “K.” are suspected of high treason and attempted plunder of national resources in Russia-occupied Crimea. According to Venediktova, they disclosed information containing state secrets; facilitated and participated in the transfer of valuable documents about Ukraine’s subsoil and resources worth 38 billion hryvnias (about $1.37 billion); “became the legal successors of Ukrainian property, which rightfully belongs to Ukrainian citizens” and “created an army of information clowns” who acted in the activist interests of Ukraine.

M. himself has been found, and now the Security Service of Ukraine is “taking measures” to find out where he is and “to serve him with a custodial demand.”

In February, the Ukrainian authorities imposed sanctions against Medvedchuk and his wife and Kazak, seized their assets. They also shut down TV channels owned by Kazak. “Opposition Platform” responded to this by starting impeachment proceedings against President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Viktor Medvedchuk is the former head of the Administration of the President of Ukraine (2002-2005), deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of three convocations. The “Ukrainian Choice” movement, founded by Medvedchuk in 2012, opposed Ukraine’s European course. After the outbreak of the war in the Donbas, the politician acted as a mediator in the negotiations to resolve the conflict. The godfather of Medvedchuk’s youngest daughter Darya is Vladimir Putin.
