Loshytsa Park rally: in remembrance of Stalinist purges victims

Loshytsa Yar is one of nine Minsk places where the NKVD (the People’s Commissariat for Internal Affairs) was shooting innocent people. The Conservative Christian Party – Belarusian People’s Front has been permitted to stage a commemorative march to Loshytsa Park on Sunday, November 4, on the occasion of Dziady (Remembrance of Ancestors Day).
According to CCP-BPF Deputy Chairman Yury Belenki, participants will gather in front of the Loshytski Palace of Culture between noon and 12:30 p.m. and march along Mayakowski Street toward the park, where a rally will be held between 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. Up to 500 persons is allowed to take part in the action.
“This time officials have not warned us against violating the law on mass events,” Mr. Belenki said. “They just confined themselves to saying that they hoped that the event would have been held within the pale of laws,” he said.
On the execution site of the victims of political repressions a five-meter wooden cross was erected in 1996 at the initiative of the Belarusian People’s Front and Belarusian Martirology society.
