Political prisoners’ families express express gratitude to Pope


They thanked Benedict XVI for his concern over the political prisoners’ fate and asked for assistance in their release and prayers for Belarus.
Gugerotti’s visits
Last month apostolic Nuncio Claudio Gugerotti met with Mikalai Statkevich, Pavel Seviarynets, Ales Bialiatski, Sierhei Kavalenka and Pavel Syramalotau. After the visits the two latter were pardoned and released.
The Pope wants more information about the prisoners of consciousness
On October 2, 2012 Pope Benedict XVI is scheduled to meet with archbishop Gugerotti; Belarusian political prisoners being on the list of the subjects for discussion.
The relatives address the Pope asking to “pray for us, for Belarus, for those who are suffering in dungeons, bearing the humiliations, violence, giving their lives for truth, freedom, justice and future, built not on the Communist but on the Christian values”.
