Lithuania starts to build fence on border with Belarus

A barrier of wires will only cover 30 km of the border, which border guards think are most vulnerable.

Lithuanian military has begun installing additional fencing on the border between Lithuania and Belarus, writes Delfi. The dart barrier is installed in the area of Druskininkai at a distance of 30 kilometers. Border guards do not participate in the work, but they have suggested the most “troubled” area.

It is unlikely to stop there: the President of Lithuania will convene the State Defense Council on Monday.

According to Lithuanian border guards, 1,546 people have already been detained illegally crossing the border with Belarus since the beginning of 2021. Most of them are Iraqi citizens.
