32-year-old Homiel resident Anastasiya Peravoshchykava was released from the remand prison on May 9, our correspondent reports. In total, the woman spent 105 days in custody.

Homiel-based activists and Anastasiya’s mother Alena were waiting for her at the prison walls on Sunday.

“They [authorities] detected seven photos that were posted somewhere on web and unknown witnesses said that I was in those photos, although no faces could be seen there. Thus, they imposed a 15-day jail term for each picture,” she said.

According to Anastasiya, confinement conditions have become tougher since April 1; mattresses, blankets, pillows were taken away, inmates’ using books was minimised

“When you are free, you underestimate the role of letters. Someone from Minsk sent me a telegram, I re-read it when I was going through difficult moments,” the former prisoner added.

On February 6, Anastasiya Peravoshchykava went at large after serving her first 15-day term, but two days later, she was detained again. After that, Anastasiya was tried many times. Moreover, her home and her grandfather’s place were searched by the police, which resulted in confiscating the family’s equipment.

The reason why she came to the local authorities’ attention was her allegedly taking photos with white-red-white сolours and designing a model of Navabelitsa district protesters’ flag, her mother said. The woman was also accused of taking part in at least ten rallies.

Belarusian human rights activists recognised Anastasiya Peravoshchykava as a political prisoner and informed UN Special Rapporteurs of the outrageous situation she found herself in.
