Brest-based freelance journalists Ales Lyauchuk and Milana Kharytonava are accused of violating the law on mass media.

Two protocols were drawn upon them under Article 23.5 of the Code of Administrative Offences for interviewing people near the House of Justice in Brest.

On the same day, the police gave back the mobile phones which had been previously seized from them, Lyauvchuk told Belsat. However, his phone has been out of order since then.

“I think it’s nothing but exerting pressure. They want us to opt out of going to court and reporting,” said the journalist.

The local police keep a close eye on the journalistic work of the married couple Lyauchuk-Kharytonava. When Lyauchuk was lately covering a trial, he was being filmed by state television.

The two media workers are to be tried on June, 18.
