Joe Biden said they were placing a ban on all imports of Russian oil, gas, and energy, which meant that Russian energy products would no longer be accepted at American ports. According to Biden, America supports the Ukrainian people and will not subsidize Putin’s war.
The U.S. president said this decision was made during a conversation with European partners.
Biden said they were imposing the ban, realizing that many of their European allies are not in a position to join it. He added that they produced more oil than all the countries in Europe together, and they were actually an energy exporter. But they were working with their European partners on a long-term strategy to reduce their dependence on Russian energy.
Joe Biden also clarified that the ban would raise fuel prices, but he said such a step was necessary and urged U.S. oil and gas companies not to raise prices excessively.
