IOC did not recognize Viktar Lukashenka as President of Belarusian NOC

The International Olympic Committee has not recognized Viktar Lukashenka as President of the National Olympic Committee of Belarus and Dzmitry Baskau as a member of the Executive Committee of the organization.

The International Olympic Committee pointed out that the NOC of Belarus had failed to fully consider the first paragraph of the decision of the IOC of December 7, 2020, stating that the previous management of the NOC did not adequately protect the Belarusian athletes from political discrimination. In this regard, the IOC made a decision not to recognize the election of Viktar Lukashenka as the new president of the NOC of Belarus and the election of Dzmitry Baskau as a member of the Executive Board of the NOC. These persons can no longer take part in all activities and events of the IOC, including the Olympic Games.

In addition, the IOC suspended all financial payments to the NOC of Belarus, with the exception of payments related to athletes’ stipends and the preparation of the Belarusian team for the Olympic Games and their participation. The Belarusian athletes are to participate in the qualification activities for the upcoming Olympic Games without political discrimination. The IOC will ensure that this requirement is fulfilled.

The IOC also demanded that the NOC of Belarus and its member federations ensure that there is no political discrimination when Belarusian athletes take part in qualification events and in the final selection of the Belarusian NOC team for all Olympic Games.

But the state officials from Belarus will not receive an invitation or accreditation to the Olympic Games.
