Green Portal editor-in-chief released after spending three days behind bars


Yanina Melnikava, editor-in-chief of Green Portal (greenbelarus.info), was released on Monday afternoon.

As reported earlier, Belarusian security officers raided Melnikava’s flat in Minsk and took her away for questioning on September 3. During the search, her computer equipment was confiscated, the status of Yanina Melnikava was ‘witness’. A bit later, she was detained for 72 hours.

Last week, a number of environmental activists, watchdogs, journalists found themselves in the Belarusian authorities’ crosshairs, facing detentions, interrogations, and searches.
