At least 150 journalists left Russia after war in Ukraine began

Journalists have been leaving Russia en masse in recent days. The reasons include criminal penalties for “fakes” about the war and the blocking of the media.

According to the Russian media “Agentstvo,” at least 150 journalists have left Russia recently. For example, almost the entire Moscow editorial board of Meduza (about 20 people) and journalists of Dozhd, Ekho Moskvy, and Novaya Gazeta left.

Dozhd editor-in-chief Tikhon Dziadko, Dozhd host Mikhail Fishman, Republic editor-in-chief Dmitri Kolezev, and film critic Anton Dolin, among others, announced their departure.

The offices of major Western media outlets have also been evacuated. Most of the BBC Russian Service (at least 15 people), Bloomberg, and Radio Liberty left Russia.
