Teenager sentenced for protesting using mouthpiece


The court of Pershamaiski district of Minsk has sentenced 18-year-old Matvey Budnitski to two years of restricted freedom in an open-type institution. The young man was accused of “acting jointly and in concert in a group action, using a mouthpiece,” writes the human rights center Viasna.

Matvey Budnitski, a third-year student of Minsk College of Business, was found guilty under Article 342 of the Criminal Code (“Organization and preparation of actions, grossly violating public order”).

The investigation claims that on October 4th, the young man actively participated in the mass event associated with open disobedience to the police and loud applause. Matvey “participated in a group action, using a mouthpiece,” the prosecution states.

As a result, the court of Pershamaiski district of Minsk sentenced 18-year-old Matvey to two years of restricted freedom in an open-type institution.

Judge Anastasiya Kulik heard the case. The prosecutor’s name was Zubko. The lawyer was Zakhar Ladutska.
