Photojournalist Dzmitry Dzmitryeu detained in Minsk

Security forces made an unexpected visit to photographer Dzmitry Dzmitryeu’s place at about 6.40 am on Thursday.

Dzmitryeu, who works for the Novy Chas newspaper, managed to inform his colleagues that his flat was being searched.

“They have come to me,” he said on Facebook.

According to Dzmitryeu’s wife, after the raid the photojournalist has been taken for questioning to the Belarusian Investigative Committee, his legal status is still unknown.

Dzmitry Dzmitryeu used to work at the police, but in 2012 he quit that job and began contributing to media outlets as a photographer. During post-election protests in Minsk in 2020, he was repeatedly detained while performing his professional duties.
