Independence Day celebrated in Minsk. This time without parade

For the first time since 1999, the official Independence Day was held without a large-scale celebration in Minsk. The authorities refused to hold a military parade, and there were no official explanations of the refusal. In the morning, Alyaksandr Lukashenka made a speech near the Mound of Glory. At the same time, in the regions, solemn events were held on the occasion of the liberation of the capital from the Nazis in 1944.

In Minsk, most of the festive sites were half-empty. The attractions prepared by the holiday organizers were traditional: an exhibition of military equipment, porridge, kebabs, machine guns, and patriotic songs.

The atmosphere of the official event is visible in our photo reportage.
