Some Belarusian banks block accounts of politicians Tsikhanouskaya, Latushka, blogger Matolka

A number of Belarusian banks blocked accounts of politicians Svyatlana Tsikhanouskaya, Pavel Latushka, blogger Anton Matolka on Monday.

The blockage might have been a grave consequence of the Belarusian authorities’ recently including them in the republican list of persons involved in terrorist activities.

“Svyatlana Tsikhanouskaya called Belarusbank to find out why her account was blocked. She was told the account was blocked due to terrorism charges. The only funds that came to this account were assistance in caring for a child with a disability,” her aide Franak Vyachorka said on Facebook.

Former Belarusian diplomat Pavel Latushka’s account was blocked by MTBank.

“According to my information, it is linked to initiating the criminal case under Part 3 Article 289 (‘terrorist act’), which is an absolutely absurd and wrongfil accusation,” he said on Telegram.

Blogger Anton Matolka says he does not have access to his Alfa Bank and Priorbank accounts anymore.

“It is a good thing that I managed to pay the ‘entrepreneurship tax’ in the morning,” he informed.

Last week. the State Security Committee (KGB) published an updated list of organisations and individuals allegedly involved in terrorist activities. Among Belarusian opposition activists, bloggers, former security officers, the KGB listed opposition politicians Svyatlana Tsikhanouskaya, Pavel Latushka, blogger Anton Matolka, BYPOL initiative members Ihar Makar, Andrey Astapovich, Stanislau Lupanosau, Uladzimir Zhykhar, Ihar Loban, and others.
