Smarhon resident Dzmitry Dudoyts was accused of ‘insulting a government official in connection with the performance of his official duties in the information available on the Internet’ (Article 369 of the Criminal Code). In fact, Dzmitry left a negative comment under activist Volha Karach’s post about Vitaly Kulyashou, head of the police department in Hantsavichy, in the Russian social network Odnoklassniki (ok.ru). As a result, he was sentenced to two years of restriction of liberty.

On December 29, he arrived at Mahiliou open-type correctional facility to serve his term. Dzmitry spent one week there.

According to human rights activists, the man took his own life when he was returning from the medical centre, he was unaccompanied.
