Svyatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s headquarters, together with other democratic forces, have presented the “Act on release from liability and restoration of rights of persons persecuted for political reasons.”
The Amnesty draft was created so that when the “political will” for the release of political prisoners appears, they can act immediately.
Here are the main ideas of the act:
- to release those convicted of “political” articles no later than two days;
- to release those whose articles are not “political”: economic crimes and corruption. It proposes to release on recognizance not to leave with further review of the case;
- to rehabilitate those who received administrative responsibility under Articles 23.4, 23.34, and others. Those who are currently on furlough will be released within 24 hours, and those who have paid a fine will be compensated;
- those politically fired will be subject to reinstatement.
- The draft would apply to anyone who has been harassed since May 8, 2020.
The draft is now up for general discussion.
