72 hours after the arrest of the artist Ales Pushkin, he was not released from the Hrodna prison. It has been reported that he would not be released from custody until the trial.

Ales Pushkin is charged under part 3 of article 130 of the Criminal Code (Incitement of national, racial or another enmity by a group of persons). The reason was the portrait of anti-Soviet partisan Yauhen Zhykhar. The artist faces from 5 to 12 years of imprisonment.

Pushkin’s wife Yanina says that Ales is holding up and feeling well.

The well-known artist was detained right on the site where he performed restoration work.

On March 26th, Hrodna city prosecutor’s office brought a criminal case against the head of the private establishment “Center of City life” and Belsat journalist Pavel Mazheika and the artist Ales Pushkin, as well as other persons for committing deliberate actions aimed at rehabilitation and justification of Nazism. The artist was in Kyiv that day but returned to Belarus despite the threat of detention.
