Tsikhanouskaya discusses with EU diplomats visas for Belarusians

Svyatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s office has organized talks with foreign ministers of the EU countries in order to provide information about the possible abolition of visas for citizens of Belarus. Brussels assures that the European Union has no intention to introduce such a measure.

Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the European Union have no intention to stop issuing visas to citizens of Belarus, said Franak Vyachorka, advisor to Svyatlana Tsikhanouskaya.

“We have had spoken with the foreign ministries of a number of countries and with the Office of the Commissioner for Home Affairs. There was a telephone conversation with the European Commission yesterday in the case of journalists. There is no plan to cancel visas. I hope that in the case of the Czech Republic it is an unfortunate mistake,” wrote Franak Vyachorka in his Telegram channel.

Vyachorka also said that diplomatic missions in Belarus are now working with reduced staff and their opportunities are limited. In addition, the number of applicants for visas at the embassies has significantly increased. People are fleeing from the war.

Franak Vyachorka reports that Svyatlana Tsikhanouskaya appealed to the European Commission with a request to consider Belarusians leaving Ukraine the same way as Ukrainian war refugees.

On March 3, the Czech Republic announced it would stop receiving and considering applications for visas and permits for long-term and permanent residence of Belarusian citizens. Earlier such restrictions were imposed on citizens of Russia. The ban applies even to the already initiated cases. However, humanitarian visas will continue to be issued.
