Blocked 'First Region' website declared 'extremist'


The information site “First Region” has been declared “extremist” human rights activists have learned. The Brest Region Prosecutor’s Office recently reported on the grounds for blocking the site. However, the decision to recognize it as “extremist” was taken by the court of Hantsavichy district on December 27, 2021.

On December 27, 2021. the Hantsavichy District Court found the website “First Region” to be “extremist.” On December 31, access to the pages of the portal was blocked. However, only on January 3, the prosecutor’s office reported that the “First Region” was blocked for “numerous violations of the Law of the Republic of Belarus “On Mass Media.” However, the prosecutor’s office did not report that the media resource was considered “extremist.”

Human rights activists point out that despite recognizing the “First Region” as “extremist,” the prosecutor’s office left a link to this site on its page.
