Kazakhstan Defense Ministry hopes to repel military aggression if needed

Speaking on the sidelines of the Senate in connection with Russia’s attack on Ukraine, Kazakhstan’s Vice Minister of Defense Sultan Kamaletdinov answered reporters’ questions about whether Kazakhstan is ready to repel military aggression if foreign troops invade the country.

“This question worries everyone. We hope that the Armed Forces, as the Minister of Defense assured at the meeting, are ready to carry out their tasks,” the vice minister replied, Orda reports.

However, he could not guarantee the safety of the Kazakhstanis.

“Of course, we give guarantees. It is for sure. We are the Armed Forces. “Our task is to ensure the sovereignty and territorial integrity,” said Sultan Kamaletdinov.

Earlier, Kazakh Foreign Minister Mukhtar Tleuberdi said that the option of sending troops to Ukraine within the CSTO mechanisms was not considered.

Meanwhile, Russian politicians have repeatedly expressed territorial claims to Kazakhstan, especially the border regions.
