Disabled prisoner Hundar tortured in jail, relatives say

Uladzimir Hundar, detained in the “Autukhovich case,” wrote in his latest letter to the family about the torture behind bars. Inha Stromskaya, the prisoner’s daughter, wrote on Facebook that Uladzimir was not given any medication. The disabled man had previously suffered from a hypertensive crisis in the KGB jail.

In the letter to his wife, Uladzimir urged her to raise the alarm. The prisoner’s lawyer met with her client and learned that on June 25, Uladzimir was placed in a punishment cell for 10 days for refusing to utter the phrase “prone to extremism.”

“In the punishment cell my dad went on a hunger strike, his blood pressure is 160 as of today. As we understood, most likely the medications he needs are not given (and he needs drugs for his blood pressure and also for his disease on a regular basis). Without these medications, he might have another hypertensive crisis, which he had already suffered from in the KGB detention center, and he was in danger of losing his other leg. We also do not know how the hunger strike will reflect on him,” wrote Inha Stromskaya.

The prisoner’s relatives urge human rights activists to help Uladzimir Hundar.
