Belarusian Railways infrastructure under attack

According to the telegram channel of the Belarusian railway workers’ community, another cyberattack on the infrastructure of the Belarusian Railway has taken place.

“Today, at 12 p.m. Minsk time, there was another attack on the network infrastructure of the Belarusian Railways,” reads the message.

It also says that the GID system (schedule of executed traffic), the executive Notebook, the Subscriber’s Office, the automated system Autodispatcher and other related software do not work. Because the DC “Neman” system was affected, there are now train movement issues.

Belsat readers report large queues at the train station in Minsk.

Following the outbreak of Russia’s war against Ukraine, which was supported by the Belarusian authorities, BYPOL has been carrying out special operations at the Belarusian Railways to halt the movement of military echelons to the Ukrainian border. It is a preparatory part of the PERAMOHA plan.

On the night of February 26-27, the electrical interlocking and overhead lines on several sections of the Belarusian railroad were damaged.

On February 27, cyber guerrillas said they knocked out routers and paralyzed the “Neman” dispatcher centralization system. As a result, many working computers were left without a connection to the company network. It was impossible to buy tickets online, and logistics companies could not access their personal accounts.

At night, from February 28 to March 1, two cabinets (signaling, centralization, and blocking devices) on the service areas of Baranavichy and Homel departments of Belarusian Railways were destroyed by fire, which broke the work of traffic lights and switches and blocked traffic on these sections of the railroad. There were also short track circuits on the service section of the Mahiliou department of BRW.

“To date, the Belarusian Railways have been unable to ensure the safety of its infrastructure. Military echelons from the Russian side do not move at night. Locomotive crews have begun to fear going out for shifts and driving trains,” railroad workers note.
