Belarusian potash not directed via Russia after Lithuanian transit stopped

The Kremlin says the issue of redirecting supplies of Belarusian potash fertilizers to Russian ports is on the agenda. Still, potash has not been traveling through Russia, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said so far.

“Rather, this issue should be addressed to the Ministry of Economic Development. I would like to redirect you there. This issue is on the agenda, it is being discussed. If I am not mistaken, [the redirection] of these flows has not yet begun,” TASS quoted Peskov as saying.

On February 1, 2022, Lithuania stopped the transit of Belaruskali products through its territory.

In August 2020, Alyaksandr Lukashenka promised to redirect all trade flows from the ports of Lithuania to Russia. After the Lithuanian transit stopped on February 1, 2022, Belarus Prime Minister Raman Halouchanka said that Belarus had been long preparing for this situation and redirected its supplies. But according to the Russian newspaper Kommersant, the Belarusian authorities have not even tried to negotiate new schemes with key Russian companies with transportation capacity.
