Hoax bomb threats from "Raman Pratasevich's accomplices" flood Belarusian schools


Belsat has learned from readers about bomb threats in Babruisk, Smarhon, Putrishki village, and other settlements. The messages started coming in from the early morning on Monday.

According to readers, school employees were gathered and read out a message that some accomplice of the arrested blogger Raman Pratasevich had allegedly mined an educational institution.

The man who called himself Pavel Bacheyeu stated that he was forced to plant mines at the schools by Pratasevich and that the victims should be blamed only on Raman and not on the police or other Belarusian authorities.

It is also reported that people saw riot police near several schools in Minsk last morning.

As of 10 a.m. on May 31, a threat was reported at schools in Smarhon, Hrodna, and Hrodna region (Babruisk, Minsk, Mahiliou, Kalinkavichy, Mazyr, and Shchuchyn district.

In Babruisk, schoolchildren were evacuated.

According to the official commentary of the Ministry of Interior, 118 schools in Minsk and regional educational institutions received letters with bomb threats. In total, more than 270 addressees were identified.

“Law enforcement officers examined all places – the information turned out to be false. At present, investigations are underway to find out who was involved in the threats,” reads the statement.
