Tsikhanouskaya: Lukashenka's regime will fall this year

In an interview with the German weekly Bild am Sonntag Svyatlana Tsikhanouskaya said that Alyaksandr Lukashenka would have to leave within the next few months, DW reports.

According to Tsikhanouskaya, Lukashenka’s resignation will inevitably be caused by increasing pressure on his regime by the U.S. and the EU.

“The pressure will grow every day, and one day it will become excessive for Lukashenka, so he will leave,” Tsikhanouskaya said. “Lukashenka’s regime will fall as early as this year. I think he will leave in the spring,” Tsikhanouskaya added.

In turn, Pavel Latushka is calling on the West to seek the complete economic isolation of Belarus. “We are ready to bear with sanctions for six or twelve months, if the situation improves after that,” said the opposition activist in a conversation with reporters of the German weekly newspaper Welt am Sonntag.

According to Latushka, the European Union should suspend all economic relations with Belarus, so that the Lukashenka’s regime apparatus is no longer able to receive funds in international financial markets. At the same time, Latuhka and Tsikhanouskaya expressed confidence that the “decisive battle” between the protesters and the current government will start already in spring.
