Beating in court: Belarusian journalist battered by Minsk police verifies injuries

Pavel Dabravolski, a journalist of popular Belarusian news site tut.by, has appealed to the State Committee of Forensic Examinations to verify battery-induced injuries. On Monday the reporter who was covering the ‘graffiti case’ was beaten by plain-clothed police officers.

Dabravolski was in the company of his colleagues Katsyaryna Andreyeva and Andrey Rabchyk. When the journalists came, the employees of the Committee called the police officers who arrived in a matter of minutes. The police banned journalists from taking pictures and were keeping an eye on them during their stay in the Committee.

An hour later Pavel Dabravolsky managed to officially verify battery-induced injuries.

“The Investigative Committee did not contact me, then my colleagues and I went to the directorate of the State Committee of Forensic Examinations, got examined and verified injuries. I was told that the result of the review would be ready in 2-3 days. I’m going to file it to the Investigative Committee, which I previously appealed for bringing the police officers to justice,” Dabravolski told the Belarusian Association of Journalists.

According to Pavel Dabravolski, on Monday several riot police officers beat him with their feet for 20 minutes, paying no attention to his journalist ID. They seized his phone and erased all the data.
