Notorious Russian TV propagandist admits being UK citizen


Sergei Brilev, a well-known anchorman at Rossiya 1 TV station who has repeatedly provided commentary for Putin’s inaugurations, has confirmed that he has another citizenship as well as property in London.

A few days ago, the Anti-Corruption Foundation led by Russian opposition politician Alexei Navalny reported that Mr Brilev had been granted UK citizenship in 2001. His wife Irina Brileva purchased an apartment at the cost of 700,000 pounds on February 22, 2016, the investigation says.

Mr Brilev is also Deputy CEO of the state-run media holding VGTRK. For 17 years, he has been working as a host of variuos news shows. Brilev often conducted direct lines with the Russian president; he hosts forums and interviews top officials. He is an author and anchorman at Saturday’s weekly evening show.

According to him, the employers are aware of his ties to UK. The money he paid for the property in West London were well-earned, the media worker stressed.

“An employee of a federal state unitary enterprise is not a public servant. That is, I have not violated any law. In addition, I have no access to state secrets,” he said.

The Anti-Corruption Foundation which was established by Alexey Navalny in 2011 investigates, exposes and fights corruption among high-ranking Russian government officials.
