Minsk: Opposition leader holds action of solidarity with Belarusian entrepreneurs

Anatol Lyabedzka, the leader of the United Civic Party, invited all people who care about the Belarusian business that is facing a critical situation to gather at 12:00 near the Red Church in Minsk. The action was attended by about 30 persons.

The police drew up administrative protocols upon everyone who was adressing the public at the action, HRC ‘Viasna’ reports. After a short rally, the group of its participants headed by Anatol Lyabedzka went to Government House to pass a list of proposals on creating conditions for the development of small and medium businesses and new job formation. In addition, the list of proposals includes cancellation of obligatory certification of goods and, consequently, the need to obtain accompanying documents. The officials accepted the list and promised to give a response within 15 days.

A few days ago Mr Lyabedzka and representatives of the Belarusian Christian Democracy and the movement ‘For Freedom’ met with entrepreneurs in the towns of Dzyarzhynsk and Zhodzina.

Beginning 2016, Belarusian self-employed businessmen selling clothes and shoes have to start working in accordance with the new rules that came into force on January, 1. Lukashenka’s Decree 222 of March 16, 2014 canceled the previous benefits in the required package of accompanying documents for the goods and ordered to get for them not only consignment documents, but also a certificate for compliance with the Eurasian Economic Community.

Representatives of entrepreneurs’ movement argued that the Russian market, where they bring cheap Turkish or Chinese clothing from, such documents are difficult to obtain. As a result, the businessman are fined and their goods are seized.
