Ukrainians boycotting Adidas over ‘Soviet’ T-shirts

A high-profile scandal broke out over famous Adidas’ selling clothes with Soviet symbols.

Lithuania’s Foreign Ministry slammed the company’s red T-shirts and tank dresses with the inscription USSR and the emblem of the Soviet Union. Ukraine’s Institute of National Remembrance has sent an official letter to ADIDAS-Ukraine and warned against the the use of the prohibited symbols of the Communist regime.

“The idea to make the clothes decorated with Nazi swastika would have no chance in Adidas. Because it would be a violation of not only legal, but also moral norms in its native Germany which went through the process of denazification. For residents of Ukraine and other countries, the use of Soviet symbols under which millions of our countrymen were killed is a violation as well,” Volodymyr Viatrovych, Head of the institute, stressed.

Meanwhile, Internet users have started to boycott Adidas and launched the hashtag #stopadidas:

By the moment, the photos of controversial products have been deleted from the company website.
