Belarus offers help in resolving Turkey-Russia conflict

Belarus is ready to do its utmost for the resolution of the Turkey-Russia conflict, Foreign Minister Uladzimir Makey told the Belarus 1 TV channel.

“Belarus is not going to impose mediation services on anyone. We are judging by the fact that the pressure on each other and sanctions are not the means for the resolution of issues in interstate relations. As for the recent disagreements between Russia and Turkey, I am convinced that sooner or later this conflict will be resolved,” state-run news agency BelTA quotes the minister as saying.

According him, Belarusian president Alyaksandr Lukashenka voiced his opinion on the conflict to the leaders of the two countries.

“We are interested in regulating this conflict as soon as possible and are ready, if necessary, to do our utmost for it. We are doing the same for Ukraine,” the diplomat stressed.

In mid December, Lukashenka called upon Russia and Turkey to meet each other halfway and settle for a compromise.

“It is necessary to prevent the building up of any further tensions and find the way to make at least half a step toward each other. The problem will be settled then. Those good and close relations that these nations and states once enjoyed will be restored,” the Belarusian leader made the statement at the conference in Ashgabat.

It is also to be recalled that Russian Internet users harshly criticised Belarus for its neutrality over Turkey’s downing the Sukhoi Su-24 fighter.
