Belarusian authorities allow rally and concert on Freedom Day

The Minsk City Executive Committee has informed the organizing committee of the Belarusian People’s Republic’s 100th anniversary celebration about its decision.

Members of the organizing committee received information from the authorities that their application to hold a rally and a concert near the Opera and Ballet Theater in Minsk was granted.

“Leadership of the city police and prosecutor’s office were present at the meeting of the Minsk City Executive Committee with the organizing committee. We discussed the conditions under which the event will take place,” Yury Hubarevich told Belsat.

Collective responsibility

The city authorities confirmed the previous agreements: that they will ensure the order and provide medical assistance at the concert, cleaning up the territory after the event, and will assist with contracts with enterprises supplying electricity and provide food services.

The organizers reminded the applicants – all the five organizers – that they are responsible for the fulfillment of the permit conditions.

During the meeting, the organizing committee again raised the question of the procession. According to Hubarevich, on Tuesday, the Minsk City Executive Committee, at the same time as the statement was approved, received an additional appeal about its feasibility.

“In fact, everything is conditioned by security issues,” Hubarevich added. “For example, the road from Niamiha to the opera house is very narrow.”

The application to hold the rally and concert was a compromise between the authorities and the organizers of the celebration: the Minsk City Executive Committee did not grant the previous application and urged the opposition to abandon the procession.
