State official: Belarus stops military-technical cooperation with Ukraine

Military-technical cooperation between Belarus and Ukraine has stopped. The official reason is the status of Minsk as a platform for the peaceful settlement of the conflict in Donbas.

This was stated in Minsk by the chairman of the State Military-Industrial Committee of Belarus Aleh Dvihaliou, Interfax-Ukraine reports.

“Our cooperation with Ukraine in this area has been reduced, currently not being implemented, because we must understand that Belarus is, first of all, a platform for the settlement of the conflict in Donbass. We do not create additional problems and questions,” Dvihaliou said.

“We cannot allow this situation (military-technical cooperation) to somehow be used not in our interests,” he added.

The State Military Industrial Committee of Belarus confirmed to belsat.eu the fact that military and technical cooperation with Ukraine had been suspended, but they noted that it had been frozen about two years ago.

At the same time, the department notes: before the war, such supplies were controlled by a special commission, the process was regulated by an intergovernmental agreement, but “the commission has not gathered for several years”.

In turn, a source close to Ukrainian intelligence told Belsat journalists in Kyiv that Belarus without any problems had been supplying dual-use technology to Ukraine over the past few years. However, in December last year, according to the source, the Ukrainian side could not buy tractors and wheelbases for the needs of the Ministry of Emergency, the tender for purchase was canceled. According to our source, the delivery was cancelled through the fault of Minsk, “due to an implicit prohibition on the part of the KGB.”

The head of the Ukrainian volunteer organization “Peace and Co”, ATO participant Miroslav Gai said that Belarus had supplied sights for SVD sniper rifles, thermal imagers, night vision devices.

In addition, the volunteer claims that Ukraine bought Belarusian fuel for aviation, and also repaired its helicopters in Belarus. Most likely, Guy implies the services of the Orsha Aircraft Repair Plant.

The State Military-Industrial Committee of Belarus refutes this information.

There are two points of view on the issue of military-technical cooperation between Belarus and Ukraine in the expert community. Some (for example, Ukrainian political analyst Igor Tyshkevich) believe that this aspect of trade is flourishing, while others think that it declined after the outbreak of the war in Donbas.
