Lithuania bans Russian TV station over infamous MP’s warmongering comments

A six-month ban on rebroadcasting of Russian TV channel TVС has come into force in Lithuania on Monday. The official reasons for the ban are warmongering and inciting hatred.

In mid September, Lithuania’s Radio and TV Commission decided to stop rebroadcasting. According to the commission, despite the sanctions imposed, the channel has failed to mend their way; it keeps violating the existing rules. This decision was approved by Vilnius Regional Administrative Court.

The commission took notice of to the comments made by Russian MP Vladimir Zhirinovsky in the TV show Right to Know on June 10. According to Lithuanian officials, when speaking about Russia-Ukraine relations, the politician warmongered, incited hatred and intolerance between peoples.

Lithuania started to limit the broadcasting of pro-Kremlin TV channels in 2014, when Russia annexed Crimea and sparked a war in Donbas.
