Independent journalist Larysa Shchyrakova on trial again

Homiel Court scheduled another hearing of the case of journalist Larysa Shchyrakova.

People who came to support Larysa had small posters with the inscription “Je suis dishonest blogger.”

“We came to support Larysa, and the real criminals in robes and the uniform will be punished,” said one of the supporters.

Larysa used “Facebook” to ask all concerned to come to support her.

“I am asking you not to leave me in the lurch and come to the next court session. After all, without you it is quite boring and not interesting there,” wrote the journalist.

The court decided to hold another hearing on the case of Larysa Shchyrakova on October 4 to hear witnesses’ testimony, including one of the characters of her story (at the request of the journalist), for which she is being tried.

On September 27, independent journalists were once again fined.

Among the journalists fined for “working without accreditation” were freelance journalist Andrei Tolchyn and Kastus Zhukouski. The local court found them guilty of the illicit manufacture of media products and working without accreditation. Now each of them is to pay a fine of 40 basic units — almost $ 500.
