Ex-political prisoner jailed for protest against Russia-Belarus war game

Former political prisoner and presidential candidate was arrested and put in a detention centre in Minsk on Saturday.

His wife Maryna Adamovich was informed that the police had detained her husband.

As reported earlier, Mikalai Statkevich was sentenced to 15 days in jail for participating in the protest against Belarus-Russia joint on July, 3.

Although a Minsk court ruled on his case on August 9, the politician was not arrested at that moment.

(UPD) Five days were added to the sentence; thus, the politician will have to spend 20 days in prison.

The authorities might well have arrested and jailed Mikalai Statkevich to prevent him from holding a protest rally against Russia’s aggression in September, 8.
