Belarus authorities extend pre-trial detention of defendants in White Legion case
The Belarusian authorities have extended the pre-trial detention of Andrey Dundukou, Syarhei Strybulski, Ales Yaudakha and Uladzimir Fyodarau, defendants in the White Legion case.
They are charged with preparing mass riots and forming an illegal armed group.
Dundukou was detained on March 21 and is currently held in the Interior Ministry’s prison in Minsk. He will remain in custody for another four months, so will Ales Yaudakha.
Fyodarau was detained on March 29. He is held in the KGB pre-trial prison. The detention of Uladzimir Fyodarau and Syarhei Strybulski has been extended by two months.
Both are charged with preparing riots (Part 3 of Article 293 of the Criminal Code) and forming an illegal armed group (Article 287 of the Criminal Code).
Two pre-trial prisons of Minsk, the KGB prison and the Interior Ministry’s jail, continue to hold 16 people accused of ‘preparing riots’. Fifteen of them are also charged with creating of illegal armed group, to date only Syarhei Kuntsevich has not faced additional charges under Art. 287.
Another defendant Yauhen Paltarzhytski was released from the KGB prison on May, 19. He was placed under house arrest.
About 30 persons – former members of the defunct sports and patriotic organization White Legion, state-authorized sports and military club Patriot, Young Front activists as well as people who are not associated with any organizations, landed up in jail after Alyaksandr Lukashenka’s words about ‘armed militants’ posing a threat to Belarus.
