Visa-free stay in Belarus may be extended to two weeks - MFA

Belarus’ decision to introduce visa-free entry for citizens of 80 countries have been welcomed by foreign partners, Dzmitry Mironchyk, Spokesman for the Belarusian Foreign Ministry of Foreign Affairs said during Wednesday’s online conference.

As of 9am on 15 February, as many as 465 foreign citizens entered Belarus via the border checkpoint in Minsk National Airport taking advantage of the five-day visa-free option, he said. German, Polish, Chinese, Italian and Lithuanian nationals have been among the most active users of the visa-free travel option.

If a decision is made to extend the period of visa-free stay in Belarus, it will most probably involve an extension of up to two weeks so that foreigners could, for instance, visit health improvement and wellness centers, state-run news agency BelTA reports with reference to Dzmitry Mironchyk.

On January 9, Belarus president Alyaksandr Lukashenka signed the decree ‘On the introduction of the visa-free entry and departure for foreign citizens’. The document introduced visa-free entry through the border checkpoint at the Minsk National Airport and the visa-free stay in Belarus for up to 5 days for the citizens of 80 states, including the entire European Union, Brazil, Indonesia, the USA, Japan.

The five-day visa-free entry to Belarus was launched on February, 12.
