‘Too short’. Foreigners’ take on five-day stay in Belarus without visa (video)

Within two hours, Belsat TV journalists were looking for foreigners in downtown Minsk. In a short interview, the visitors commented on Belarus’ introducing visa-free travel for those who arrive at Minsk Airport and plan to stay up to five days in the country.

The interviewees were happy about the introduction, but they also mention the problems they had faced.

“There is too much bureaucracy and one has to pay a lot [to visit Belarus]: insurance, visa fee – we need yearlong visas as we come here often and for a long time,” a tourist from Italy says.

“The government’s decision is good for tourists,” his friend stresses.

“You have Mir and Nyasvizh, UNESCO world heritage centres, which everyone should definitely visit. But transport communication between the two towns is not very good, I think now you have an occasion to change this for the better,” a man says.

Another foreigner suggests the period of visa-free stay should be extended:

“Perhaps, one will manage to only tour Minsk within five days, it is a very short period. I think it will be better to have ten days.”

“Belarus is very beautiful, but it is very cold here!”

On January 9, Belarus president Alyaksandr Lukashenka signed the decree ‘On the introduction of the visa-free entry and departure for foreign citizens’. The document introduced visa-free entry through the border checkpoint at the Minsk National Airport and the visa-free stay in Belarus for up to 5 days for the citizens of 80 states, including the entire European Union, Brazil, Indonesia, the USA, Japan.
