Belarus not to go to expense of hosting 2019 European Games – Sports Minister

Belarus will spend $30-40 mln on the 2019 European Games, Alyaksandr Shamko, Belarus’ Minister of Sports and Tourism, told TV station ONT.

“The European Olympic Committees will shoulder the costs of transfers, flights. The issue of TV coverage will be considered by the International Olympic Committee. The part of the costs will fall on the European Olympic Committee. We have all necessary things – buildings and infrastructure. And hence we have these figures – $30-40 mln, it is the estimation by international experts,” news agency Belapan quotes the top official.

If Shamko’s statement is anything to go by, Belarus will not drop much – if compared to Azerbaijan which, according to unofficial information, spent more than $5 bn on the 2015 European Games, he said.

As reported earlier, Belarus was given the right to host the Second European Games in 2019 after a vote at the 45th General Assembly of the European Olympic Committees (EOC).
