Ukrainian MP outraged at Gorbachev’s backing Putin's annexation of Crimea

Anton Gerashchenko, a Ukrainian MP and advisor to the Interior Minister, has expressed his intention to address their partners in Europe and ask them not to play host to the first and the only Soviet president Mikhail Gorbachev and not to support his foundation.

On May 22, the British newspaper The Sunday Times published its interview with Mr Gorbachev. Speaking about Russia’s annexation of Crimea, Mikhail Gorbachev said he would have done the same if he were Russia’s president Vladimir Putin.

“I always stand for the free will of people, and the majority in Crimea wanted to reunite with Russia,” the politician said.

According to Anton Gerashchenko, the ex-president of the USSR should be denied entry to Ukraine.

“In such cases, the Security Service usually takes a decision to ban persons who support the violation of territorial integrity of Ukraine from entering the country,” the deputy of the Verkhovna Rada said  in an interview with the Russianradio station Govotrit Moskva (Moscow Speaking).

Anron Gerashchenko also promised to turn to its European partners for support and dissuade them from accepting Gorbachev and providing financial aid to his foundation that is participating in ‘stirring up hatred between Russia and Ukraine’.
