Nadiya Savchenko gets visibly worse

The pilot is still on hunger strike, which began after the verdict. Her deteriorating health was noted by her Ukrainian lawyer Mikolai Polozov.

“I met with Nadiya Savchenko in jail. She is a thin woman, with black circles under the eyes, weighting slightly less than 60 kg … Doctors said her blood had turned into tar, which is very difficult for the heart to pump and there being a great likelihood of blood clots and sudden death. She may literally die in her sleep,” he wrote in his Facebook.

Savchenko refuses to go to hospital, goes on with her hunger strike. According to Polozov, she is ready to get examined by an independent group of doctors from Ukraine or Germany, but “so far there has been no positive information about them getting access.”

Savchenko also offered Poroshenko to act more decisively in the negotiations for her release. She hopes that “a chain reaction will start after her release, which will lead to the liberation of the rest of Ukrainian political prisoners in Russia.”

On March 22, the Donetsk city court of the Rostov region found her guilty of murdering two Russian journalists and sentenced her to 22 years in prison. The pilot denies her guilt. According to the defense, she was kidnapped by terrorists in LPR and then taken out to Russia. Savchenko has been in custody since July 2014.
