Businessman Yauhen Baskin released from jail

The imprisoned earlier head of the “Servolux” Yauhen Baskin has been released from the KGB jail to house arrest.

After a week in the KGB detention center, the CEO and main owner of the group of “Servolux” companies, the largest producer of poultry meat in Belarus, Yauhen Baskin was released. He is number six in the ranking of the most successful and influential businessmen in Belarus.

“In connection with newly discovered evidence in the Baskin’s case, his measure of restraint was changed — he was released to stay on house arrest,” KGB spokesman Dzmitry Pabyarzhyn told tut.by.

According to the KGB, Baskin reimbursed the amount of damage he is accused of making.

The detained were suspected of large scale tax evasion. According to Vakulchyk, the preliminary damage was estimated at 370 billion Br.

According to Vakulchyk, the head of the “Servolux” group Yauhen Baskin and his CFO were detained in the Minsk airport – they were trying to go abroad.

According to available information, the others were arrested on the afternoon of March 14 in Mahiliou, where the company’s central office is placed.

At the end of last year, criminal proceedings were instituted against two large structures that were engaged, like Baskin, in fodder production and import of feed additives, – “Biocom”, owned by Senator Andrei Paulouski and “Consul”, owned by Hilmanau brothers and Victar Raukou. They are accused of tax evasion. According to sources, Raukou was also already released.

In addition, the trial of the ex-director of the Vitsebsk broiler farm Senator Anna Shareika continues. After her arrest, Baskin was suspected in liquidation of competitors, but no serious arguments in favor of this hypothesis were found. Baskin stated that the “competitor liquidation” argument “sounded ridiculous and absurd.”
