У амбасадзе хаваўся былы віцэ-прэзідэнт Эквадору.

Мексіка разарвала дыпламатычныя стасункі з Эквадорам. Пра гэта паведаміў мексіканскі прэзідэнт Андрэс Мануэль Лопэс Абрадор. Прычынай такога рашэння стаў арышт былога віцэ-прэзідэнта Эквадору Хорхэ Гласа, які хаваўся ў мексіканскай амбасадзе.

«Гэта абуральнае парушэнне міжнароднага права і суверэнітэту Мексікі», – заявіў мексіканскі прэзідэнт.
Андрэс Мануэль Лопэс Абрадор падкрэсліў, што амбасада было ўзятая эквадорскімі сілавікамі штурмам. У МЗС краіны ўдакладнілі, што ў выніку нападу некалькі дыпламатаў атрымалі траўмы. А саму падзеі назвалі «абуральным парушэннем Венскай канвенцыі аб дыпламатычных стасунках».
«Мы збіраліся выйсці на вуліцу і раптоўна сутыкнуліся з паліцыянтамі, рабаўнікамі, якія ўначы праніклі ў амбасаду», – расказаў «El Pais» амбасадар Мексікі ў Эквадоры Рабэрта Кансэка.
Аднак Эквадор абвяргае абвінавачанні ў свой адрас. У заяве ўрада краіны падкрэсліваецца, што Хорхэ Глас – злачынец, які не можа лічыцца палітычна пераследаваным. Эквадорскія ўлады настойваюць, што амбасада Мексікі злоўжыла сваім статусам і дала прытулак «насуперак агульнапрынятым прававым рамкам».
Сам Глас у выніку штурму быў затрыманы.
Хорхэ Глас займаў пасаду віцэ-прэзідэнта Эквадора ў 2013-2017 гадах. У жніўні 2017 года новаабраны прэзідэнт Ленін Марэна адправіў Гласа, з якім выйграў выбары, у адстаўку праз абвінавачанні ў крадзяжах. У снежні таго ж года Нацыянальны суд Эквадора прыгаварыў Гласа да шасці гадоў пазбаўлення волі ў справе пра найбуйнейшы карупцыйны скандал Лацінскай Амерыкі вакол бразільскай будаўнічай кампаніі «Odebrecht». Паводле следства, Глас атрымаў 13,5 млн долараў хабару за перадачу дзяржкантрактаў.
У кастрычніку 2023 года былая супрацоўніца офісу былога віцэ-прэзідэнта абвінаваціла Гласа ў сексуалізаваным гвалце. Да таго ж раней палітыка вінавацілі ў плагіяце.
У лістападзе 2023 года Глас выйшаў з вязніцы, але следства выпісала яшчэ адзін ордар на яго арышт. Тады палітык звярнуўся ў амбасаду Мексікі па палітычны прытулак. Ён настойваў, што ў Эквадоры яго пераследуюць з палітычных матываў.
