Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda has published a post in Belarusian on Twitter dedicated to the launch of the BelNPP, which may take place this summer.

On May 25, Lithuania’s State Nuclear Power Safety Inspectorate (VATESI) and the Belarusian Ministry of Emergency Situations signed the agreement on early notification about emergencies in nuclear facilities and exchanging information on nuclear safety.

Commissioning of the first unit of the BelNPP is scheduled for 2020, while the second unit is to be commissioned in 2021.

Several groups of Russian specialists will also be sent to Belarus

Gosatomnadzor has begun a targeted inspection of the Belarusian NPP for readiness to import nuclear fuel.

Deputy Energy Minister Mikhail Mihadziuk said that the readines levels of the first unit is quite high, while the work on the second unit of the Belarusian NPP is 70% complete, the newspaper Respublika reports.
