‘Yukos money’: Russia police raid Open Russia office, flats


The Moscow police have raided the office of the online media outlet openrussia.org and flats of contributors and members of the Open Russia movement on Thursday morning.

According to investigators, the searches which started at 6.30 am, were conducted as part of the probe into the ‘first Yukos case’ opened in 2003.

The police got to grips with Open Russian in December, 2015. The investigators state that the movement relies on funding from Mikhail Khodorkovski who ‘gets money for stolen oil’.

Russian TV channel ren.tv posted a video of searches.

Mikhail Hodorkovsky was the main owner of Yukos until 2004. In 2005, he was convicted of fraud. In 2013, Russian President Vladimir Putin pardoned Khodorkovsky.

At the moment, Mikhail Khodorkovsky lives in London. He is the founder of the movement Open Russia”. Russia’s Prosecutor General’s Office declare that the activity of the organization is ‘undesirable’ in the territory of the Russian Federation.
