Yellow cloud over Grodno Azot plant: Leadership denies accident


[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]On Thursday morning rumors about another accident at Grodno Azot, the city’s pivotal enterprise, started to swirl on the Internet. There was a yellow-brown cloud over one of its shops, the workers reported.

The rescuers immediately left for the scene. According to the press service of the Hrodna Regional Department of the Ministry of Emergencies Situations, at the moment there is no information about the accident. The company leadership is trying to ascertain the causes of the incident and preparing official explanations. Reportedly, there is no threat to its staff and the residents of Hrodna. According to information provided by one of workers, there is no danger; however, a smoke injection did occur due to the stoppage of one of the compressors in the shop. As for the cloud, it always emerges in such a situation.

According to the press service of Grodno Azot JSC,  on June  16 at 9:00, routine technical activities were in progress in the shop of nitric acid and liquid nitrogen fertilizers. As a result, the equipment partially stopped (at that, the shop operation was not interrupted) and some working areas became gassy, they say.  The maximum allowable concentration of harmful substances is not exceded both on the premises of the enterprise and in the vicinity. Its equipment is functioning in normal mode, the situation is not dangerous to the environment, life and health of the workers and local residents, the company assures.

By the moment, the yellow cloud over the plant has been completely eliminated.

As reported before, on 6 June a major accident happened at Grodno Azot with two people dead and two injured. After the explosion, Lithuania had the Neman water samples tested.

Grodno Azot JSC, a Belarusian state-run enterprise, is a leading producer of nitrogen compounds and fertilizers.
