Yanukovych wants to return to Ukraine

Lawyer of Viktor Yanukovych said that the former president wants to return to Ukraine.

The statement of the attorney Vitaliy Serdyuk was made in an interview with “Glavcom.”

According to Serdyuk, the case against Yanukovych has been terminated, the investigation is not conducted. At the same time, the former president is ready to testify, but not in Ukraine, as he “fears for his safety,” the lawyer said.

“He (Yanukovych) has an intention to return to Ukraine and for this legal steps will be made. Yanukovych did not step down from the office and did not dodge from the country’s leadership. The procedure for dismissal of the client was held with gross violations of the Constitution of Ukraine. It was illegal to carry out this procedure not in the form of impeachment, but as the resolution of the Verkhovna Rada,” said Serdyuk.

Viktor Yanukovych was the president of Ukraine from 25 February 2010. On February 22, 2014, after three months of protests on the Maidan, Verkhovna Rada admitted that he “withdrew” from the post and did not fulfill his duties, then new presidential elections were announced. In February last year, Yanukovych left Ukraine and is now living with his family in Russia.
